Christians and The Law

As I have been considering the upcoming United States mid-term elections occuring this week, I have been thinking also about those first principle topics relating to my responsiblities to the state and nation in which I live.
When Pontius Pilate asked the Master if he were a king, and Jesus responded "thou sayest that I am...my kingdom is not of this world..." he proved a point that all true folowers of the Master have followed since that time. Namely, that our citizenship has been translated, transferred and is no longer of this earthly "Kosmos." We are aliens and pilgrims, sojourning as it were for a brief stay. We may be a member by physical birth to whatever country we were born into, but by grace we have been made a kingdom of kings and priests under the Lord of lords and the King of kings, the great High Priest who lives to make intercession for us; Jesus Christ, God’s own son.
We are called to be separate and holy unto our heavenly Father. We are determined to live by the commandments of our Messiah. These are not arbitrary commands. These are the standard of conduct for those of us made members of that long expected heavenly kingdom, soon to make its arrival on earth.
We are a people dedicated to the gospel of that Kingdom and of the name of our Master. All the same it is evident through media and scrutiny that most of Christendom is oblivious to the high calling that should differientiate us from the worldly system in which God appoints the "basest of men" to be its leaders.
Should we choose to listen to the increasingly hostile political campaign ads warring across the airwaves, we have only "the lessor of two evils" presented. Smear campaigns and propaganda; us against them; class distinctions and envy. These are not what the disciple needs. Nor are they constructive. Running a person’s reputation through the mire for selfish promotion should not be the litmus test for determining who is best qualified to lead our local, state, and national political assemblies.
Over the next few days, I will be posting booklets and articles relating to our position as "in the world but not part of it." These will be a-political and non-partisan. All I can offer is the Biblical view, contrary as it may be to popular thought or media hype.
May the kingdom come, and soon!
